The first - twelve or eleven chapters, I think, into TTT is all Merry and Pippin, and Legolas Aragorn and Gimli. Every page turn I expected to be back with Frodo, Sam and Gollum, and every page it was more of.. everybody but them.
Don't get me wrong, everyone else IS important, it's just - the Ring is kind of the whole point of the story. It was even EASIER for me because I have the whole Trilogy as one book, so at least I had had them earlier, but as seperate books, TTT begins without them and continues this way for a long, LONG time.
